The overall project concept was to create a home that sat comfortably within its site and connected to the landscape, respecting the local vernacular externally whilst having modernist internal elements for the way the family lived and entertained.

Cut into the side of a hill the sculptural form of the land surrounding the house provides a natural shield to garden spaces from the outside world and allowed proportions to be generous and with the extensive use of glass, appreciate the external views from within the house. From the sheltered sun terrace at the top of the site to the woodland walk at the bottom, a key element of the design is the flexibility of the external spaces which encourages the occupier outdoors.
